Let the tours begin ...
In forty days we will be embarking upon our first WildFires Revival Tour to Rhosllanerchrugog, Near Wrexham, North Wales.
What is it about forty days?
The flood … the Israelites wandering (forty years, not days!) … spying out Canaan … Goliath taunting Saul’s army before David arrived … the tempting of Jesus in the desert, and the fasting … the time between the crucifixion and the resurrection … could there be more? [Ref]
I didn’t plan to write this today. We’re working behind the scenes to organise a number of revival tours, researching the sites we plan to visit, following more and more rabbit trails as we discover more. More revival stories, more of our rich Christian heritage here on our doorstep, and more tales of the sad decline of the church. One curious gentleman who wondered what I was doing taking photographs of old chapels told me that the Church in Wales is sadly going through the experience of the Welsh chapels over the past several decades, with the decline and closure of many places of worship. One tiny hamlet, which previously had four active chapels and churches, saw the doors closing on the last remaining site for Christian worship only this year. It is sad to see a church which has stood since before 1291, with a churchyard cross that probably predated the church building where itinerant priests would have led services, has now closed its doors, along with the previously active chapels.
Whist we won’t be visiting this site, we will be running our first tour in forty days time! Forty days remaining to prepare, to pray, to ponder. What can God do in forty days?
In addition to sites linked to the previous Welsh revival in 1904-5, we will be visiting other ancient and historical sites linked with Christianity. The land of Wales is rich in its Christian heritage. Ancient Saints, healing wells, chapels, churches, and monasteries abound. Virtually every hamlet, village, town, and city in Wales has a chapel or church or two or more. Sadly, though as we have seen and heard, many are now closed or closing and often converted into other types of dwelling or building.
On all tours organised by WildFires Revival, we seek to challenge and inspire as we remember.
We will hear tales of past revivals, how Christianity impacted the community instead of the other way around. The church – united – could change the world and did change the world around us in the past.
On this website, you will find information about each of the sites visited. Joining the tour will ensure that you will hear the real story behind each site. Joining the tour will enable you to join us in prayer as we walk in the footsteps of the saints of the past.
Our prayer is that, as we follow their footsteps, we spark a fire – a wildfire – of a new revival at these ancient wells. If you can’t join us on the tours, join us in prayer, join us in spirit, join us in remembering, join us in our work of restoring a sense of community, join with us to ask our heavenly Father, God, for a revival. It starts in us! Are you ready?
Let the tours begin … and let us pray.
