Is It Real..?
Don’t you find that life is sanitised? That church is sanitised? But it’s not real …
Real life is messy. Real church is messy. Mess is real.
Jesus came into a mess. The way He came was a mess. No room at the inn, no nice comfortable room booked, no B&B, no heating, and certainly no en-suite.
Jesus left through a mess. Set up, falsely accused, wrongly convicted. Mobbed, beaten, whipped, killed, crucified between two convicts.
But Jesus’ life in between was anything but a mess. He cleaned up the mess. He cleansed the lepers, healed the sick, raised the dead. He even turned water into wine, celebrated the marriage ceremony, reconciled the separated, built up a brotherhood of disciples (men and women), left a legacy, and commissioned His followers.
As we celebrate Christ’s birth this season, may we reflect on how we, personally, can live up to His legacy and fulfil His calling and commission. Amen.
